It's very cold outside. And there's a good chance that it's going to snow tonight.
I'm trying very hard to be grateful for it.
But oh its hard.
If it DOES in fact snow, then I will need to whip out the water heater for the horses, get out the blanket for Sage, since she is older and a bit thin(she needs about twenty more pounds to go into winter looking like what I want).
Last winter she dropped almost 250lbs. She got ringworm, and lost ALL of her hair.
We worked the entire winter and spring, and part of the summer, getting weight on her and getting rid of the ringworm. I am still battling with blankets and saddle pads that still have the ringworm on it.
When we bought her in October of 2010 she was already maybe 50lbs underweight and just went downhill.
We work double-time to get and keep weight on her so she is healthy. I do NOT like to see her even as she is a tad ribby.
Poco has always been an easy keeper, except for the first months when I first got him.
He was beaten up, had been traded between numerous people over a few months, and was extremely thin(150lbs underweight). He was very very toed out and had a choppy, awkward gait that didn't fit him. He was just under 14hh, and he was nearly two years old(for his lineage and breeding, he should have been around 15.2hh already.)
His mane was maybe two inches long and his tail was thin and ratty.
After getting him a good natural horsemanship farrier to fix his feet, getting some extra weight on him and giving him plenty of TLC, he made it to a good weight and finally started growing.
It took a lot of time and money, but it was totally worth it.
NOW that I have gone off on that rabbit-trail, what was I first talking about?
Oh, snow!
Right.
Nothing so far. Looking skyward.
Just rain.
I'm going to go curl up beneath some blankets and mourn the death of summer.
Goodbye.
SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI do feel bad for the people who don't like cold...because I know how they feel (I don't like hot!).
It stinks that Sage has had such a battle with ringworm. :P I hope your horses keep warm! And you!
